********************************************************************** 安省司法廳長歓迎上訴庭的否定裁決 "As Attorney General of Ontario, I welcome the Federal Court of Appeal’s dismissal of the federal government's appeal over a ban on face coverings at citizenship ceremonies. A guiding principle of our government is to treat everyone with dignity and respect, and to accommodate diverse identities as outlined under the Charter and the Human Rights Code of Ontario. It is imperative to ensure that this principle applies to all women in our province, regardless of their religious beliefs. That is why the government of Ontario intervened before the federal court of appeal in this case in support of Ms Ishaq's position. Ontario’s position before the Court was that the federal policy in question goes against our deeply held views on equality and tolerance for the religious beliefs of everyone in our society, and it is inconsistent with Canadian values of inclusion and diversity. For the reasons above, if leave to appeal this matter is granted by the Supreme Court of Canada, Ontario will intervene to defend the rights and freedoms we hold dear. Should the federal government seek to obtain a stay of this decision, Ontario would seek to oppose it." |
